Metsähallitus claims cartel compensation from Stora Enso, UPM and Metsäliitto
April 4 2011 Metsähallitus (Forststyrelsen) has filed a claim of 282.6 million Euros against UPM, Stora Enso and Metsäliitto at the District Court of Helsinki.
The claim relates to the Market Court decision of December 2009, whereby UPM, Stora Enso and Metsäliitto were deemed to have breached competition rules in the roundwood market.According to the application for summons, Metsähallitus claims jointly from the three companies an amount of approximately 282.6 million Euros, as damages allegedly incurred by Metsähallitus in connection with the competition infringements. Metsähallitus also claims for compensation relating to value added tax and interests.UPM considers the claims unfounded and is of the view that it has not caused any damage to Metsähallitus in connection with the competition infringements, the company writes in a press release.
