Kaarlo Niskanen awarded 2010 Alf de Ruvo scholarship
Jan 29 2010 The 2010 Alf de Ruvo scholarship has been awarded to Dr Kaarlo Niskanen, Helsinki. He received the scholarship, with a value of 500,000 Kronor, for the development of a textbook at postgraduate level in the field of paper physics, at a ceremony in Stockholm.
Kaarlo Niskanen has been awarded the scholarship for the development of a high-quality textbook at postgraduate level in the field of paper physics, and for studies of new areas of application for wood fiber-based materials.Dr Niskanen has a solid background in innovative R&D and market-driven customer relations in the forest industry. He has held positions as President and Head of Research at the KCL research institute in Finland and has also worked as adjunct professor at the Helsinki University of Technology and Tampere University of Technology. He took his doctor’s degree in physics at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA, in 1984.
